Local Dem volunteer wins award from county committee

Morgan Hill resident Swanee Edwards has won the Madge Overhouse annual Volunteer of the Year Award, presented by the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee during the annual dinner April 18.

The award is given to a Santa Clara County Democrat who has demonstrated, at the local level, leadership in organizing one voter registration efforts, club development, get-out-the-vote activities, campaign efforts on behalf of Candidates and party involvement.

Vendors needed for GavFEST

Local arts, crafts and nonprofit vendors and exhibitors are invited to participate in GavFEST, the annual spring festival and open house at Gavilan College. GavFEST 2007 drew 2,000 visitors. GavFEST 2008 will include bands, food, a college open house, hairstyles and manicures , a soccer tournament and GaviLAND kids area with reptile zoo, bounce attraction and climbing wall.

This year's festival has a special environmental theme, "GavFEST Goes Green" and will include environmental and green building exhibits. Admission and parking are free. GavFEST 2008 will be May 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Special Olympics Tip-a-Cop

Morgan Hill Police Officers Association members invite residents to be their special guests as they volunteer to wait on the public as celebrity servers at Chili's Restaurant, 1039 Cochrane Road, 5-10 p.m. May 6.

Tips to the officers will benefit the Special Olympics Silicon Valley Region.

Off-duty Morgan Hill police officers will offer service, smiles and complete satisfaction as guests enjoy an evening of fun and food. The celebrity servers will explain Tip-a-Cop, Special Olympics and the many benefits that the community's generous donations help facilitate for the athletes.
