Community members attending the City of Morgan Hill Earth Day Art and Science Fair April 22 will take home their own eco-friendly gifts.
A special coupon for two free Greenlite compact fluorescent light bulbs will be passed out at the event, providing every household with a way to conserve energy and go green.
The fifth annual event, sponsored by the City of Morgan Hill, will be held at the City of Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road, in Morgan Hill, featuring a lineup of events from 2-7 p.m. From 2-6 p.m., the community will view the fair projects created by Morgan Hill students, as well as visit the vendor exhibits featuring environmentally sustainable products and services. Fair awards will be presented at 4:15 p.m., along with the annual Sustainable Quality awards and other presentations. From 1-4 p.m., the Sustainable Business Conference will be held to teach people about energy savings, recycling and reuse and water conservation opportunities. Rounding off the Earth Day event is the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce mixer from 5:30-7 p.m., where all are welcome to mingle with business leaders and enjoy refreshments and raffles.
Funded by the California Department of Conservation, the fair is designed to educate and motivate the community to recycle and reuse drink containers, like water bottles and soda cans. As this year's contest theme is 'Keep Morgan Hill Green!,' the focus will be on preventing pollution of stormwater runoff into the ocean.
Projects promoting recycling, reduction or reuse of beverage containers or preventing stormwater runoff pollution will earn more than $1400 in cash and prizes. New this year is a special $250 cash prize added by The Big Red House Learning Center of Morgan Hill.

EHC Lifebuilders awarded $2 million
A San Jose nonprofit agency that runs shelters and other programs for homeless and low-income area residents, including the Sobrato Transitional Apartments in Gilroy, has received a much-needed grant from a consortium after slashing its budget approximately $6 million last fall.
Cutting its $13 million budget to $7 million meant many programs had to be transferred to other providers, according to interim CEO Jennifer Loving. The agency did not want to have to shut down programs or shelters as a result, she said.
The grant was funded by a group of non-profit and private sector organization, initiated by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The organizations involved included Adobe Systems, Inc., the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health, the SH Cowell Foundation, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, United Way Silicon Valley and individuals participating in Silicon Valley Community Foundation donor-advised funds.
Foundation has new board director
The Morgan Hill Community Foundation has appointed Ed Struzik, a 12-year native of Morgan Hill, as a member of its board of directors.
Struzik is a business solution executive for IBM's Global Business Services Division. In keeping with the IBM philosophy of commitment to community service, Struzik inquired about lending his talents to the MHCF. Struzik is no stranger to community involvement; he is serving as president of the 30th Gilroy Garlic Festival and is heavily involved with Morgan Hill Pony Baseball.
"We are delighted to have Mr. Struzik on our board," said MHCF President Dave Reisenauer.
"Both the foundation and the community will benefit from his involvement."
Struzik will join a board of community leaders dedicated to enriching the Morgan Hill community through fostering charitable giving and supporting local non-profit organizations.
The MHCF is a tax-exempt public charity focused on improving the quality of life in the greater Morgan Hill region.
